Clients Don't Grow on Trees

If you're just starting out as an IP, by far the easiest and best source of clients is people you already know. Those people tend to fall into two categories: people you used to work with and everyone else you've ever met. Now's not the time to be bashful: tell everyone you know -- from Josh in the mailroom to Peggy, your mom's bridge partner -- about your new career. If you don't market yourself, who will? Then again, if your former colleagues hate you and your family hasn't spoken to you for five years, it might be best to move far, far away and start over.
